When Life - An Open Letter to my Future Daughter by Kristen Noelle

Dearest Mya,

You are the reason why I am doing what I have set forth to do.

Hi hun, this is your Mom; I have yet to meet you, yet to know you and yet to hold you in my arms, but I felt drawn to write you a letter. I’m not even pregnant with you yet, but I know that at this day and at this time, this letter was meant to be written and that you will exist someday in my lifetime.

So here it goes, and I’ll begin with this: I truly believe from the very depths of my soul that every single one of us is put onto this world for a greater purpose. You included. And it is this purpose of mine that has lead me to write you this exact love letter.

First of all, I love you. And because I love you so, so much, I want you to know that you are capable and powerful beyond measure.

Not too long ago, a friend of mine asked me WHY I decided to go after my dreams of building an online empire. I told him that the reason is because if I were to ever have a daughter, I would want her to know that she can be and do anything she wants to be, and I knew from the bottom of my heart, that I couldn’t bear to look you in the eyes and tell you that; unless I followed my own advice and lead by example.

So, this empire I’m building is my open love letter for you to see that it is possible for you to be whoever you want to be. Regardless of what it is.

Baby, Do you want to be a dancer? An astronaut? A doctor? A writer? Perhaps like mum right now, build your own online empire one day? Anything you want to be, you will be successful in it as long as you follow your heart and let love be your guide. Do what makes you ultimately happy and fulfilled. You only have ONE life to live, make it count my love.

Will your journey be filled with only rainbows and sunshine? Many times it will. I say, relish in those moments and celebrate those moments with people who will celebrate and rejoice in your success with you. Those are the people you want to keep in your life.

And as much as I want to prepare you for immense heartbreaks and failures; I know that you’ll probably go through it. More times than you want to.  You will experience heartbreak, and you will experience failure, but let me be the first to tell you that life is always happening FOR you. Even during the darkest of darkest moments. And the only time you have truly failed is if you lost complete hope; and trust me when I say I will NOT let you lose hope in yourself. You my girl, have a unique gift to share with the world and you must always remember that and SHARE IT. Don’t hide your gifts, love. Why else do you think you were put on this earth for, silly goose? Mistakes? Make them. In fact, make plenty of them. Dive into your pool of mistakes and get messy. Mum has made plenty of mistakes, so yes, you are definitely allowed to make them, too. I don’t expect you to be perfect my love; really, I don’t. But never, EVER let your mistakes define you and remember to OWN them.  Mistakes are only meant to be life and growth lessons. And if it’s going to take you many tries to figure it out, SO BE IT. Your life is not a race, nor is it a competition.

Sweet girl, if you are anything like me, you may struggle with a few things that I want you to ALWAYS keep in mind…

Hun, I hate to break it to you, but people will judge, and hate you. I have spent a large chunk of my time being controlled by these people. I truly wanted to please everyone (an impossible feat) and it has cost me my sanity, my energy and my precious time. Your haters are going to hate. That is their JOB, let them do their job and let them be. Focus on you, who you can help, your greater purpose, what you were put on this earth to do, and STAY IN YOUR LANE.

The only person and thing you can control in your entire life, is and will only be yourself and your thoughts. I have tried to control people and outcomes to turn out exactly the way I want them to be and that has never worked out for me. In fact, it has only caused me more heartbreak and heavier burdens. Remember baby, that when things are not working out in your favor, pray for things to work out for it’s higher good. That my love, will give you inner peace.

Finally, I advise you to be BFFs with Fear.  At first glance, Fear may seem to be scary to be around, and she might make you want to run the other direction but TRUST ME, when I say the farther you run, she will always show up in your life - whether it’s now or later. You might as well be well-acquainted with her. Hang out with Fear every single day and make yourself comfortable with her. Your mum has made the mistake of letting Fear control and paralyze her by being afraid of her. And as  much as I wish Fear would just leave me and you alone, it is part of her job to be a part of our lives. And since we can’t choose for her to leave us, I say our best bet is to just accept her. Life will go much, much easier.

Mya, wherever you may be when you are reading this letter, even if it so happens that I be sitting right next to you, remember that you are capable and powerful beyond measure. Whatever it is that you want to be and do, YOU CAN DO IT. Mum believes in you. You have great gifts that are meant to be shared, don’t hide them from the world.
